Making an existing space work for a growing team

Good design doesn’t have to be overly complex. For Graco, an existing space offered strong foundations. The opportunity was to adapt it to support a growing team and new training needs.

With an expanding team, Graco needed to refresh its existing office and introduce a new boardroom, alongside an in-house training and workshop facility. The brief brought together two priorities: supporting everyday work and creating dedicated space for practical learning.

Building on the potential

IA’s approach began with a straightforward principle: understand what Graco needed, then build on the strengths of the existing space.

The office refresh addressed the needs of a growing team, while the new boardroom provided a dedicated meeting space. Alongside these additions, the new training and workshop facility created a setting for in-house activities.

Together, these elements respond to the different ways Graco uses its
workplace, from meetings and daily tasks to training and hands-on
workshops.

A considered design approach

The new boardroom combines warm timber tones, tan seating and a restrained palette. Simple finishes and considered lighting create a welcoming, practical setting for meetings and team discussions.
In the workshop area, the high-volume space and exposed structure
establish a distinctly industrial character. A simple grey and white palette provides a clean backdrop, with Graco branding giving the facility a clear identity.

These spaces serve different purposes, united by an emphasis on function
and simplicity.

Shaped through collaboration

IA worked closely with Graco, Turner & Townsend, Saint James and Vantage throughout the project. A shared understanding of the brief provided a clear direction for the team.

The result is a refreshed office, complemented by a new boardroom and in-house training and workshop facility.

For Graco, the project demonstrates the potential of an existing space when design responds directly to business needs. Strong foundations, thoughtful decisions and close collaboration can create meaningful
change.
